Pastels

Materials and basic techniques in the use of pastels will be the emphasis during this course. Beginning to intermediate students will learn different approaches to this versatile medium: under-painting in acrylics, gouache or watercolor; working on colored pastel papers; making your own textured boards; how to work on sanded watercolor paper; developing ideas that are uniquely yours; and just having a good time. Optional textbook will be Doug Dawson's book on pastel painting. The instructor will supply some subjects, but students with prior experience and distinct styles are encouraged to bring their own subjects (photos, etc.) if they so desire.
