Classes - Fiber Art

Session Three/June 14-18

Off Loom Weaving

Eleanor Lux

All Levels

Studio

5 Day class (9am-4pm)

Tuition: $275

It is possible to weave many different fiber pieces without any kind of a loom and very little equipment, but tension is essential. Class will begin with discussing design, color, and texture, and then exploring ideas to establish tension using fibers, wire, sticks, cloth, etc. First we will find ways to create tension in the things around the studio, and then begin to weave, learning traditional tapestry techniques. After a small piece has been completed, the class will search outside for ways to create tension and make looms with different materials. Students will be able to take home one or more finished, ready to hang, works of art.

Eleanor Lux is a studio artist using primarily weaving and beading techniques to create her sculptures and wall pieces. She has taught in the United States, Mexico, and Mali. Her work is in the Arkansas Art Center and she has been published in several books by Lark Publishing Company, plus written up in numerous magazines.
