The three types of firings used will be raku, paper clay saggar, and barrel. The class will be making tools from gourds, stones, and fired clay. They will also make brushes for decorating from Yucca leaves. Prehistoric Native American pottery created in this area will be discussed and examples used as inspiration for the student's projects. In 2008 Terry Russell (Eureka Springs, Arkansas) retired from teaching art at the Eureka Springs High School, where he had taught art for the past twenty-four years. He has been working with clay since 1973 and has a studio at his home south of Eureka Springs. Terry has worked with a variety of pottery techniques including reduction-fired stoneware, raku, zinc crystalline, pit and barrel firing, and saggar-fired wares. Terry's work may be seen at Eurekan Art and Iris at the Basin Park in Eureka Springs. |
