Session Three/June 18-22 Katie
Meier All Levels Make memories with your mind, not your camera, by letting your sense of place guide your sketching. Learn how to select and put key elements of any scene down first, in order to capture the essence of a location. This class will enhance your ability to see, refine the process you use to make selections about what to draw, provide techniques and suggestions for translating objects, people, and scenery to the page, as well as review shading and depth perception. Students may work in pencil, charcoal, pen, ink, or any other fast-responding media. This course is perfect for artists working in any media who want to enhance their ability to make quick impressions that can be translated into pieces at a later day, or for those simply eager to refine their drawing, shading, and line work skills. Katie is a published author and artist whose teaching philosophy assumes there is a difference between learning by instruction and learning by discovery. According to Katie, her “style draws back the curtains that regularly conceal the inner workings of a topic, encouraging students to look, engage, and understand.” Her sketching and paint work has been used to illustrate books on ancient archeology and psychology. Katie recently returned from the California retreat center, Pine Manor, where she served as the arts facilitator for work led by noted Soul Collage therapist, Seena Frost. |
