Session Three/June 18-22

Cynthia Re’ Robbins
Visionary Painting

All Levels
Studio
5 Day Class (9am-4pm)
Tuition: $265 (includes lab fee)
Materials: $20

In this method of painting with acrylics, a free form multi-colored ground will be produced using playful, intuitive methods. The artist stares at the colors and shapes until a vision emerges. This is similar to looking at pictures in the clouds. The shapes will be defined by highlights in a bright, white paint. Layers of transparent colors will be added for an effect like stained glass, giving the vision “life and vibrancy”.

Cynthia studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Instituto Allende in Mexico, earning a BFA degree with a major in painting. For many years, she freelanced, doing a wide range of commercial projects while still developing her personal style of painting. During this time, she lived in Key West, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and St. Croix. In 1993, in Colorado, she began to learn a technique of painting that had a transformative effect on her artwork. It breathed new vitality and wonder into Cynthia's visions. The surprises that unfold as one paints in this manner lead the artist on a serendipitous journey through the imagination.
Ms. Robbins will be giving a workshop called the "Underpainting Intensive" in Reichenau, Austria, in August 2007. Following this workshop she will assist at the Old Masters New Visions seminar, teaching the Mische technique to the new students.
Cynthia's artwork appeared in the book, Drinking Lightning by Rubinov-Jacobson and has been featured in several magazines as well as a CD cover. Her paintings are in private collections throughout the United States, Mexico, Bermuda, Sweden and Austria. She has been a member of the London-based Society for Art of the Imagination since 1998, and created their website. In October 2006 she opened a gallery and studio in The Art Colony, a new complex of studios on Main Street in Eureka Springs.
