Session One/ June 4-8

Richard Stephens
Painting in Transparent Watercolor

All Levels
Studio
5 Day Class (9am-4pm)
Tuition: $265 (includes lab fee)
Materials: $20

Light-hearted and entertaining, yet with a serious bent, Richard will be teaching a beginning to intermediate level watercolor class, although advanced students are also welcome. Students will be introduced to, and paint in various watercolor techniques and styles, as well as learning to use the supplies and materials of traditional watercolor painting. Richard will be teaching impressionistic watercolor using “wet into wet” techniques. Students will bring reference material to paint from and Richard will also bring hundreds of photos of figures, landscapes, and architectural structure to choose from. Richard will do a demonstration daily and will also provide one-on-one instruction to students at their individual stations.

Richard has a B.A. in Art from the University of Central Arkansas. He is a signature member of the Mid-Southern Watercolorists, the Southern Watercolor Society, and the Missouri Watercolor Society. He has received numerous awards for work, both as a watercolorist, and in the graphic arts industry. For 10 consecutive years he has appeared in the Mid-Southern Watercolorist Juried Exhibit. In 2006 he was the Gold Award winner in that show. He has won awards in many major watercolor shows around the country, including Watercolor West and the Southern Watercolor Society Annual Exhibit. In 2005 Richard was named as one of the “Top 10 Artists to Watch” by Watercolor Magic Magazine. He will be featured in that publication in the April 2007 edition with an article relating to his teaching methods. Since 1992 he has been the owner of Stephens Commercial Art in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
